Colin McGrath MLA has welcomed plans for new crossing on Ardglass Road/Edward Street junction
South Down SDLP MLA Colin McGrath has welcomed an update from the Department for Infrastructure regarding the installation of a pedestrian crossing at the Ardglass Road/Edward Street junction.
Colin McGrath said: “The need for a pedestrian crossing at the Ardglass Road and Edward Street has long been on the SDLP agenda in Downpatrick.
“As we see our town develop, the need for safe and appropriate crossings has never been greater.
“I have been dealing with multiple issues regarding road safety and in particular for families and children going to school in the morning.
“Agreement had been reached to deliver a pedestrian crossing at the Ardglass Road and Edward Street junction, which then stalled for a time.
“However, following representations which I have made to DfI regarding an associated crossing request, we have received confirmation that the works to deliver the crossing at Ardglass Road and Edward Street will be completed over the summer months in time for the new academic year in September.
“Not only this, but there will also be a footpath installed along Edward Street which will be a great addition.
“This is great news for the area and for those children and families that make use of our public footpaths and can help ensure that they can navigate the town as safely as possible.
“There is more work to be done to help our town infrastructure.
“However, people can rest assured that the SDLP is fully committed to this and will continue to work our common ground to deliver the best outcomes for all.”
