South Down MLA Colin McGrath (SDLP) has met with Phoenix Gas to discuss the operational arrangements for the extension of the gas pipeline to Downpatrick.
Colin McGrath said: “I am delighted to welcome Phoenix Gas to my home town. It will provide the public with greater options in terms of their choice of home heating and this can only be a win for local people.
“I met with personnel from Phoenix Gas and during this meeting I sought to minimise the disruption caused to locals and businesses in the area including a request for some works to be undertaken outside of the standard commuting hours. I impressed upon the Phoenix officials that Downpatrick is already congested so whatever Phoenix can do to mitigate against further disruption would be greatly appreciated.
“We also discussed some of their deals in terms of switching to gas and the 0% Interest Free Credit which allows customers to install a new high efficiency natural gas system spreading the cost of installation over a fixed number of months.
“Works will commence in the town soon and will be completed in phases, running up to the summer of 2019. This phased approach will minimise the disruption to the town.
“Phoenix Gas will be organising a public information session at the end of November to listen to the views of local people regarding their work. Should you have any issues with the installation of the gas please contact my office.”
