McGrath welcomes progress on Ballynahinch bypass.
SDLP South Down MLA Colin McGrath has welcomed SDLP Minister Nichola Mallon’s decision to progress the Ballynahinch bypass.
Mr McGrath said that this important project will significantly reduce traffic in Ballynahinch as well as improving road safety.
The South Down MLA said: “I am delighted that Minister Nichola Mallon has moved forward with the Ballynahinch bypass. There has been a historic need for this project and generations of people from the wider Ballynahinch community have been promised this project. It is great news that after years of lobbying successive Ministers, finally the project has been progressed by the SDLP Minister.”
“This project will have huge benefits in terms of road safety, reducing traffic and will improve the lives of local people. As we continue to grow the Mournes area and welcome thousands of tourists, it is important that the infrastructure matches our ambition. The Ballynahinch by-pass is a key part of this.”
“Minister Mallon has made her intention to progress this Scheme clear, but now we need to see similar levels of commitment from the Sinn Fein Finance Minister, who must make the necessary funds available,” said Colin MCGrath.
