New Ireland Working Group to lead way on constitutional change in Newry Mourne and Down says Mason
South Down MLA Cathy Mason has described the establishment of a new group on Newry Mourne and Down District Council as a “huge step towards building a New Ireland”.
She said: “The discussion around the need for real and positive constitutional change on our Island is well underway and how we can positively advance an inclusive discussion on a new Ireland not just here in Newry, Mourne and Down but right across the island.
“There are huge opportunities to build a stronger economy, deliver a new all-island public health service and improve the lives of everyone who call this place home.
“It is important that in the time ahead, we hear the views of everyone and I particularly would encourage our unionist colleagues, friends and neighbours to get involved in the conversation and help shape what that new Ireland will look like.
“Working closely with Intertrade Ireland and other groups across the island, we have the opportunity to advance the Dublin to Belfast economic corridor.
“As Ireland’s most important economic region, we must enable our businesses to grow and thrive.
“I look forward to seeing the work of this new group progress and will work with parties right across our Council to take part in an inclusive and open discussion on the future of our island,” said Cathy Mason.
