NEWECASTLE’s business community was congratulated this week for ‘buying into’ the town’s forthcoming Festival of Flight in ‘One Cool Weekend’. This year’s festival, organised by Down District Council and PLM Promotions, recently secured headline sponsorship from B/E Aerospace, the aircraft seating manufacturer based in nearby Kilkeel. That achievement has been further boosted by financial support generated from a range of large and small businesses based in Newcastle together with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board. Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Dermot Curran is delighted at this commercial endorsement for the festival which will run from Monday 1st – Sunday 7th August. Despite challenging economic times, many of them have made a financial commitment to the Festival and their generous sponsorship has enabled Down District Council to create an absolutely superb programme, extending the events to include a fabulous ‘Cool Weekend’ with outdoor concerts in the town on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August with headline artists, The Feeling and Chipmunk and many more. Their active support and commitment will, I hope, be rewarded with happy customers and ringing tills as visitors flood into the region! “My thanks go to the First Trust Bank and Northern Bank alongside the local retail and hospitality businesses which have given such generous financial support. A particular word of thanks must go to the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce for championing the Festival across its membership. Small businesses have always been at the very heart of Newcastle and we are delighted that they are at the heart of our Festival. The key theme I have adopted for my year in office is ‘partnership’ and I can think of no better example to illustrate partnership in action.” With almost 40 events and lots of them free for all the family to enjoy, why not check out the information at www.downdc.gov.uk , www.facebook/DownFestivals.com or pick up a FREE brochure at the Festival Office on 028 4372 2222: One Cool Weekend concert tickets available via www.ticketmaster.ie and www.plmpromotions.com/shop ]]>
