To mark World Suicide Prevention Day a ‘Life Festival’ will be taking place in the Newcastle area. This festival will run from 10 – 14 September 2014 with various events taking place in Newcastle as follows :
* 10 September 2014 – 11.00 am – 5.00pm – PIPS/MYMY Open Day (PIPS Office, 58b Main Street, Newcastle) 7.00 pm – How PIPS/MYMY can help (Newcastle Centre) * 11 September 2014 – 7.00 pm – PCSP Suicide Prevention: A Partnership Approach (Newcastle Centre) * 12 September 2014 – 8.00 pm – Kairos Football Tournament (Donard Park) * 13 September 2014 – 10.00 am – 3.00 pm – Life Festival Fun Day (Newcastle Centre) * 14 September 2014 – 10.00 am – 2.00pm – PIPS/MYMY Fun Day (Donard Park) 3.00 pm – Interdenominational Service (Our Lady of Assumption Chapel, Newcastle) Dr Nial Quigley, (Consultant Psychiatrist & Clinical Director), South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust will be talking about working in partnerships to prevent suicide at the event on the 11 September 2014. The Trust will also have a health stand at the Life Festival Fun Day on 13 September 2014 which will provide information and advice on mental health and wellbeing. There will also be entertainment and stands from other organisations at this event providing useful advice. Every year, over 800,000 people die from suicide; this roughly corresponds to one death every forty seconds. Efforts to prevent suicide have been celebrated on World Suicide Prevention Day on the 10 September each year since 2003.
