Kilmore Rec Bow Out Of Irish Cup

Irish Cup 2nd Round.
29th September 2018.
Kilmore Rec 1    Sport and Leisure  2.

Kilmore gave a good account of themselves in an entertaining competitive game but ended up on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline .
Sport and Leisure player Daren Gallagher is challenge by Kilmore’s Laurence McGonagle.

Sport and Leisure went ahead on 8 minutes when they were awarded a free kick near half-way. From the resulting free Kilmore keeper Gordon failed to collect the  high ball into the area and  centre half Michael McMullan was on hand to hook the ball to an open net.

As the opening half progressed Kilmore came more into the game and on 16 minutes Sport and Leisure keeper Saunders had to be alert to deal with a McMenamin shot and from then on the game continued end to end with many contentious off side decisions.
On 37 minutes the visitors almost went 2 up when number 10 Gallagher shot just wide after great approach play. A minute later McMenamin miscued a half chance for Kilmore when in a good position and on 44 minutes he was ruled offside when Slavin sent him clear.

At halftime Kilmore replaced their keeper Gordon with McMullan and in the opening exchanges of the second half were on the offensive and created a couple of half chances from the lively McMenamin and Slavin.
Kilmore’s Eoin McGrattan in action.

This was short lived when on 55 minutes Sports and leisure forced a left wing corner from which Gallagher rose unchallenged at the near post and with a thumping header found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Kilmore kept pressing forward and the game was competitive with Kilmore’s Slavin and Casey both shown yellow as was McAuley from Sport and Leisure. Kilmore made a couple of changes with McGrattan and Collins replacing Casey and McGivern.
On 59 minutes Kilmore got back into the game when Laurence McGonagle rose highest to head home from a corner.  From then on the game was end to end with both sides testing the keepers of both sides and on 82 minutes McGrattan missed a good opportunity for Kilmore to equalise when set up by McMenamin  but Sport and Leisure held firm to see the game through.
