Sinn Féin’s South Down MP Chris Hazzard has confirmed that a planned pedestrian crossing for Dundrum will be delivered within the next six months.
Last year as Infrastructure Minister Mr Hazzard had announced that, after many years lobbying by local Cllr Willie Clarke and Dundrum residents, a controlled pedestrian crossing would finally be delivered.
However, with the local Sinn Féin representative winning June’s Westminster election, and moving on from his Ministerial position, fears grew locally that the scheme would slip down the pecking order.
Mr Hazzard said: “I was delighted last year that TransportNI were able to agree to deliver this scheme, and I am equally delighted that they have confirmed to me this week that the crossing will be in place within the next six months.
“Local residents have waited a long time for this upgrade in pedestrian safety in Dundrum, so Im sure they will be relieved to hear that its definitely now going ahead.”
