Great Support For St Stephen’s Day Walk For Marie Curie

St Stephen’s Day Walk in Ardglass raises £4008 for Marie Curie

With Christmas day and turkey and pudding behind them, walkers came out in their droves to support the popular St Stephen’s Day walk in Ardglass in support of Marie Curie.

Organised by Sean Laird and friends, the shortish dander down to Coney Island and up the Green Road ending at the Old Commercial Bar for ‘resuscitation’ proved to be a great way to shake off the Christmas cobwebs.

Sean Laird said: “I would just like to thank everyone who who walked and donated for this charity. Marie Curie provides a lot of very important care for people and their families especially when patients are terminally ill. So we are only too happy to support their great work.

“Comgall Milligan started the walk off a number of years ago and it has grown into a great community event with increasing support each year.

“My late father John Laird organised it in 2019 before Covid before he passed away, so the walk is a time when we remember our loved ones past and present and come together again as a community.

“We were lucky on the day as we got a window in the weather and we had a number of road marshals in hi-viz vests making sure everyone was safe for the walk. The craic was good and we are looking forward to the event again next year.

“The Old Commercial was packed afterwards and it was a great way of everyone meeting up again and seeing people you haven’t met for the whole year.

“This event is about community and we are just delighted to have presented a cheque to Marie Curie which will go a long way to helping them with their vital work.

“Thank you all again everyone for your support and we’ll see you all again next St Stephen’s Day all being well.

“Have a good year!”
