On Thursday evening the Eire Og U-16’s made the short journey to Dunavil to play An Riocht in what can only be described as a game of two halves. A slow start from the Eire Og lads left a bit of a gap between the teams; it could have been more if it wasn’t for the outstanding goalkeeping skills of Matthew Brennan who looked extremely confident between the posts. After a penalty kick for Eire Og at the end of the first half there were only 3 points separating the sides with the advantage to An Riocht.
After the team talk at half time the Eire Og boys began to click together and the scores kept coming. Substitute Nathan Mills got on the score sheet with a well taken goal – something like you might have seen in the Euros! Another penalty, deep in the second half for Eire Og after an An Riocht technical foul in the square saw the Eire Og boys take the lead. An Riocht came attacking to bring the scores level once again. Strong midfield possession from Johnny McVeigh and Rory Quinn allowed for plenty of chances going forward and they were taken well by the forward line to leave the scores at the final whistle – An Riocht 3-15 Eire Og 5-11.
A well-deserved win for the Eire Og boys and everyone played their part, leaving everything out on the pitch. Well done again lads!
