Glasdrumman GAC Notes For 16 November 2014

Beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach We’ll live to fight another day, writes

That was the main thought from all the competitors and mentors from Glasdrumman after taking part in this year’s South Down Scor na nOG Qualifiers in Mayobridge on Saturday evening. First to the stage for the Glasdrumman Club were our Ceili Dancing team of : Cara Sloan ,Carragh Cochrane, Caitlin Morgan ,Aine Doran, Clodha Morgan and Riagin O’Hare ,who danced the Fairy Reel but such was the high standard of competition in this qualifier that the team narrowly missed out on a place in the Final.

dn_screenAs a club we are delighted that so many of the young dancers and their parents travelled up to Mayobridge , after having taken part in competitions in Dublin earlier that day . Ar mBuiochais mor libh go leir. It is widely regarded that one of the benchmarks of any performer is the ability to have the whole audience give its full attention to the song and singer whilst onstage.

Niamh Mc Dowell, having completed her transfer test earlier that day , sang a mesmerising version of ” The Town I love So well ” and again such was the exceptional standard of solo singers competing ranging from 6 to 16 years old that Niamh and the Club were denied a place in the South Down Final . The adjudicators had a very tough task deciding which two from this very talented group of Solo singers should progress to the Final . Well Done Niamh you are a credit to your family, Club ,mentors and teachers and definitely ” One to Watch ” for the future.

In the Instrumental section, after hearing the polished performances from the very talented groups from Cumann Peadar Naofa and Cluain Daimh, Glasdrumman were under no illusion as to who would be progressing to the South Down Final and indeed the remark was made , not only about the instrumental section but of the competitions throughout, that if this was the standard of the runners-up, then we are in for a very highly competitive and high standard of entertainment in all sections in the Final in St.Marks on Sunday at 5-00 pm .

The Club’s Instrumentalists, Peter Doran on Violin, Ciara Rooney , Cara Sloan and Orla Smith on Tin Whistles with Niamh McDowell on violin and guitar gave a very polished performance of the two tunes The South Wind and Britches full of stitches. There is a great spirit of camaraderie , positivity , enthusiasm and commitment among all our Scor na nOg team this year and as mentors Donna, Joanne and myself can only express our admiration and gratitude for all the fun, hard work and rehearsal each and every one of you have put in for our Club this year. We look forward to seeing as many as possible coming over to St.Mark’s Warrenpoint next Sunday 23 November at 5 pm to support our ballad group of Niamh, Tara, Orla and Ciara who will be flying the flag for Glasdrumman in the South Down Final.

Date for your dairy: Keep Sunday 7 December 7 free for the visit of Santa to the clubrooms at the club Christmas Bazaar
