The Eire Og U-14’s are league champions. After a tough campaign they faced Tir na nOg on Saturday evening in a league play off final as they finished joint top of their division. These two had faced each other 3 times already this season with Tir na nOg winning 2 of the 3 so the Eire Ogs knew it was going to be a tough game writes Tony Bannon.
The Eire Ogs, however, were determined that the league title would be theirs. After a nervous start from both teams it was the Eire Ogs who settled first and went ahead early on in the first half and that’s how the game stayed. Tir na Nog took their chances well and once or twice looked like coming back into the game but the Eire Ogs never gave up, they fought for every ball and battled hard and ended up dominating the second half, they weren’t letting this one go. Commiserations to Tir na nOg who were tough opponents!
Well done to the Eire Og boys and to the management panel of Paul, Johnny, Ronan.
Final score Eire Og 7-8 Tir na nOg 4-2
Their season is not over yet though as they face Annaclone in the championship final on Saturday 1st October. They have a friendly game this evening (Wednesday) at 6.45pm against Burren B in Ballymartin. Players should be at Pats Road at 6.15 for the 6.45 throw in.
As if that wasn’t enough celebrating for one weekend on Sunday the Eire Og U-12s travelled to Burren where they needed a win to ensure they finished top of their summer league. At halftime it looked as if the Eire Ogs were not going to get the result as they were 3 points down, however, they came out in the second half and turned the game around. At the final whistle they were the deserved winners of the game by 6 points.
They then got presented with the league trophy for finishing top of their division when they went through their earlier campaign with only one defeat. What a credit to the boys and girls who always turned up to every game and training session with a brilliant attitude and always worked hard for their team. Well done to the mentors Paul, Johnny and Sean who ensured the kids learned and developed their skills and enjoyed their football.
Thats the season over now for the U-12’s thank you to the parents for their help and support all year.
The Eire Og U-16’s finished runners up in their league this season. Well done boys. With all these brilliant achievements from the juvenile teams this year the future of both clubs looks bright.
The Glasdrumman U-6’s had a great game of football against Longstone on Sunday evening. Thank you to everyone who turned up to support the youngest members of our club and to Longstone for the game.
