Ballynahinch Lions 10K And 5K Fun Run
This year’s Ballynahinch Lions Club 10k and 5k/Fun Run is being organised in memory of former Ballynahinch Lions president Richard Scott who passed away recently and will take place this Saturday 23 April 2016 with the 10K at 1.30 pm. and the 5K at 2.30 pm writes Joe Quinn.
He said: “The Lions have been working tirelessly over the past four months to ensure that this event will be a memorable experience for everyone and below are some of the innovations which they have introduced”.
MIXED TEAM COMPETITION
This year there will be a new trophy and medals for a 10K mixed team competition – 5 gents and 5 ladies per team with the top 3 of each to count.
NO STEPS TO CLIMB BUT YOU’LL HAVE YOUR CHIPS
The course has been remeasured (exactly 10K with no steps!) and chip timing will be used for the 10K race.
As usual the races will start at High Street in the town centre and move through Church Street, Church Road, Spa Road and the beautiful Montalto Estate to the finish at the Eagle Gates on the Dromore Road.
COMPREHENSIVE PRIZES
Thanks to the generosity of the 20+  businesses in and around the town who have sponsored this year’s event a comprehensive prize list with a total value of £1400 has been drawn up (£900 for the 10K and £500  for the 5K) meaning that all income from entry fees will go to various Lions and Cancer charities. The prizes include  1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female in both races plus veterans 40+, 50+ and 60+ in the 10K and group and individual fancy-dress in the 5k. There are also trophies for 1st under 15 boys and girls in the 5K.
JUST TO RUB IT IN
A sports’ masseur will be available to ease tired limbs afterwards.

Competitors may enter online at:
up until Wednesday 20Â April or at Ulster Property Sales, Main St. in Ballynahinch or at Ballynahinch Community Centre in Windmill St. until Friday 22 April. Entries will also be taken on the morning of the race at The Market House from 10.30am.
FUN FOR ALL
With entertainment at the square from 12.30pm. why not make this a family day out? After the race there will be refreshments in the Market House for all 10K competitors, with presentations to all winners at approximately 3.30 pm.
