DUP Slammed By McGrath For No Show At Key Meeting

McGrath says DUP childishness serves nobody after they failed to attend an important all-island meeting.

SDLP Executive Office Committee Chairman Colin McGrath MLA has slammed the DUP for their failure to attend a joint session of the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement Committee, saying “their childish attitude serves nobody.”

South Down SDLP MLA Colin McGrath.

Mr McGrath said: “They missed an important chance to brief political representatives from across this island, branding it a ‘wasted opportunity.’

“It is disappointing but not altogether surprising that DUP representatives failed to attend this important Joint Committee meeting today. Their attitude is unhelpful, and frankly, embarrassing.

“While they may currently absent themselves from these meetings, the DUP would do well to remember that all-island institutions, such as the Joint Committee, are a key part of the Good Friday and were overwhelmingly endorsed by people across Ireland.

“While the DUP sit on their hands, all of the other political parties welcomed an important opportunity to engage across this island on the issue of the Irish protocol, finding solutions that matter to our businesses and communities.”

Mr McGrath added: “If the last year has taught us anything, people want their politicians to turn up and work constructively to find solutions to issues that matter.

“It is clear that if you do not turn up to find a solution, you quickly become part of the problem. I hope the DUP realise quickly that this stunt is entirely pointless and serves nobody.”
