Councillor Garth Craig Calls For New Solution To Langley Flooding

Following recent very heavy rain, DUP Councillor Garth Craig was called to the scene of bad flooding at Willow Park in the Langley Road Estate in Ballynahinch.

He said: “There was a large flooded area adjacent to houses in Willow Park, and close to the play park, where flood water had risen to almost door level. Residents had to access their homes by the rear, as water was so deep at the front of their houses. The postman had difficulty getting mail delivered. It was obvious that underground drains were full to capacity, as water was bubbling up out of the ground, and breaking up the tarmac in the process.

“This is an area which has been liable to flooding in the past, and maintenance work had been carried out to the drains around two years ago, which appeared to solve the problem at the time.

“I have been in contact with both Down District Council officers and DRD Roads Service, and they visited the area. I think that a fresh look needs to be taken in order to address the problem in the long-term.”
