Conradh na Gaelige Welcomes €10.5million For Irish Language

Conradh na Gaeilge welcomes the extra €10.5 million in Budget 2022 for the Irish Language and the Gaeltacht

Conradh na Gaeilge welcomes the extra €10.5 million in Budget 2022 for the Irish Language and the Gaeltacht

Conradh na Gaelige welcomes the €10.5million boost in the Urish budget towards Irish Language development and the Gaeltacht.

However, the additional funding for Údarás na Gaeltachta is not sufficient and it is clear that there is a significant problem with the funding of Foras na Gaeilge which needs to be addressed.

Conradh na Gaeilge welcomed the additional €10.5 million announced today, by the Government in the south, in the budget for Irish language and Gaeltacht organisations and projects. However, the amount of funding confirmed is less than the €23 million sought by the organisation and we believe some opportunities have been missed and that there will be some gaps in 2022.

Dr. Niall Comer, President of Conradh na Gaeilge said:  I would especially like to congratulate TG4 on the additional €4.2 million confirmed for the station for next year. I hope that this additional funding will enhance TG4 ‘s ability to provide programs in Irish to the public. This additional funding moves the station closer to their goal of having the same funding as S4C in Wales and we support them in their call for this funding.

I also welcome the extra funding for language planning in the community, which recognises the great work that is currently being done, and the extra money that will be available to help Irish language and Gaeltacht organisations throughout the country.”

Julian de Spáinn, General Secretary of Conradh na Gaeilge said: “While acknowledging the progress made over the last two years in the budget, we are of the opinion that more funding is needed, especially to increase employment in the Gaeltacht and to fund Foras na Gaeilge properly. It is clear that there is a systemic and serious problem with the Foras’s funding, when it’s taken into account that their funding is still less than it was 10 years ago, and this needs to be addressed before the next budget. The cross-border structure is not giving the Irish language community a fair go in terms of funding and this needs to be resolved.

Conradh na Gaeilge will continue to advance the needs of the Irish language and Gaeltacht community and to achieve fairness in funding.

Fáilte curtha ag Conradh na Gaeilge don €10.5 milliún sa bhreis i gCáináisnéis 2022 don Ghaeilge agus don Ghaeltacht

Ach ní leor an méid breise d’Údarás na Gaeltachta agus is léir go bhfuil fadhb shuntasach ann le maoiniú Fhoras na Gaeilge a gcaithfear dul i ngleic léi

Chuir Conradh na Gaeilge fáilte roimh an €10.5 milliún sa bhreis fógartha inniu, ag an Rialtas ó dheas, sa cháinaisnéis d’eagraíochtaí agus do thionscadail Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta. Tá an méid airgid deimhnithe, áfach, níos lú ná an €23 milliún a lorg an eagraíocht agus feictear dúinn go bhfuil roinnt deiseanna caillte agus beidh roinnt bearnaí ann i 2022 dá bharr.

Dúirt an Dr. Niall Comer, Uachtarán Chonradh na Gaeilge:  Ba mhaith liom tréaslú le TG4 go háirithe as an €4.2 milliúin breise atá deimhnithe don stáisiúin don bhliain seo chugainn. Ta súil agam go gcuirfidh an maoiniú breise seo le cumas TG4 chun cláracha as Gaeilge a chur ar fáil don phobal. Bogann an maoiniú breise seo an stáisiún níos giorra don sprioc atá acu leis an mhaoiniú chéanna atá ag S4C sa Bhreatain Bheag a bheith acu agus tacaíonn muid leo maidir leis an éileamh sin.”

“Cuirim fáilte chomh maith roimh an airgead breise don phleanáil teanga sa phobal, rud a aithníonn an dea-obair atá ar siúl faoi láthair, agus don airgead breise a bheidh ann le cabhrú le heagraíochtaí Gaeilge agus Gaeltachta ar fud na tíre.”

Dúirt Julian de Spáinn, Ard-Rúnaí Chonradh na Gaeilge: “Cé go n-aithníonn muid an dul chun cinn déanta le dhá bhliain anuas leis an gcáinaisnéis, táimid den tuairim go bhfuil gá a thuilleadh maoinithe a chur ar fáil, go háirithe le fostaíocht sa Ghaeltacht a threisiú agus le Foras na Gaeilge a mhaoiniú i gceart. Is léir go bhfuil fadhb chórasach agus tromchúiseach ann le maoiniú an Fhorais nuair atá a chuid maoinithe níos lú fós ná a bhí acu 10 mbliana ó shin agus caithfear dul i ngleic leis seo roimh an gcéad cháinaisnéis eile. Níl an struchtúr tras-teorann ag tabhairt cothrom na Féinne do phobal na Gaeilge ó thaobh maoinithe de agus caithfear seo a réiteach.

Leanfaidh Conradh na Gaeilge ag cur éilimh phobal na Gaeilge agus na Gaeltachta chun cinn le cothrom na Féinne a bhaint amach ó thaobh cúrsaí maoinithe.
