th July 2011 marks the 8th annual Claragh Bridge cross-community Vintage, Classic and Agricultural Show’ to be staged at the B175 Ballynahinch Road, Drumaroad, near Castlewellan, starting at 11.00am. Classes covering cars, tractors, stationary engines, commercials, motorcycles, buses, lorries, steam engines, and various other types of agricultural machinery will be on exhibition, and entries can also be submitted on the day of the show. This year’s show will include an indoor crafts fayre and country market, as well as stalls, trade and various exhibition stands, including some new features such as timber cutting and the annual local townland Tug ‘O’ War competitions. Events will be hosted throughout the day including live music, children’s entertainment, bouncy castle, bungee run, face painting, gladiator dual, as well as a rodeo bull, funfair, and the ever popular helicopter rides. Chairperson of Claragh Bridge Vintage Club, Liam Quinn, said, “The Claragh Bridge Vintage Classic and Agricultural Show will be a fun day out for all the family, there is something for all ages to enjoy at this year’s show. Among the many events running throughout the day are traditional threshing machines, and a blacksmith display. A selection of steam engines will also be making a special visit to the show. Townland Tug O’War This year’s show will include both Men’s and Ladies’ Tug-o-War competitions which will have cash prizes for both the winning team and runner up to donate to a charity of their choice. Competition events will also include the brick lift, driving the nail, throwing the 56, and pitching the sheaf. There will also be a vintage tractor auction taking place at 3.00pm. Both inside and outside will host a display of traditional Blacksmith tools and farming machinery from the early and mid-twentieth century.
