Celtic Bhoys 8 1 Carryduff Athletic
Storm Eunice had passed Ballyhornan leaving this game played out in bright sunshine, but the home side created a storm of their own to blow away Carryduff Athletic with an impressive performance which had the game won by half-time (writes Cyril McKinney)
The first goal came after 7 minutes when Barry Treacy crossed from the right wing for McMahon to score with a firm header past Leggett in the visitors goal.
His strike partner McCoubrey got on the scoresheet on 14 minutes with a sharp finish whilst the visitors defence hestitated and he scored again on 18 minutes following a long clearance from the back and as everyone again hestitated, McCoubrey was alert to lob over the advancing keeper.
The home side were 3-0 up and were in total control by this stage and apart from a couple of half chances Carryduff never really threatened the Celtic Bhoys defence where Carberry and Rice dominated.
Into the second half and Carryduff pulled one back on 52 minutes when Wilkinson was on hand and finished well from close in . Any suggestion of a possible comeback was quickly dispensed with as Celtic went up the other end and went 4-1 up when McMahon beat the offside trap and scored on 54 minutes.
Kerr then got on the scoresheet when sent clear by Galbriath and scored past a helpless Leggett on 60 minutes to make it 5-1. The scores kept coming with another good finish from McMahon on 64 minutes and then he turned provider for McCoubrey on 70 minutes to make it 7-1.
The scoring spree was completed on 86 minutes when Carberry headed home from a Treacy corner to leave the final score 8-1.
Celtic Bhoys were supreme in every department – quick in thought, anticipation, alertness and clinical in front of goal. Try as they might Carryduff could not match the industry of their hosts.
