The Under-14 Ladies footballers had their first outing of the season last Sunday morning against a strong and experienced St John’s Bosco side. Bosco went into the lead almost immediately with a point, but the Town girls settled themselves and started to work hard in what became a fast paced exciting game.
After ten minutes of no scores thanks to solid defending by the Town girls, the forward line starting to make their chances count scoring a goal and point on the bounce. The girls came in at half time 5 points ahead. They knew the second half would be even tougher. They were right – Bosco attacked relentlessly testing the strong Town defence, realising we were hard to break down. They took their points.
When the Town girls got hold of the ball and fed the forward line they were ruthless scoring three cracking goals. A last minute goal by Bosco won it for them which highlighted their game experience. The final score was 6-4 to 4-12. While the result did not go in the Town girls favour their spirit, character, work ethic and team work was second to none. Some of these young ladies have never played football before. The team have only been together a number of weeks and if this game is anything to go by, the future is bright. Well done girls!
