Sunday 25 August saw the Senior men take on Dromara. Dromara were first out of the blocks winning the throw in and going straight on the attack sending the ball over the bar for the first score of the match. This pattern continued for the next while despite a great effort from the Bright defence Dromara were able to gain a few more points. Being 3 points down John McLeigh went in search of a goal but was denied by the keeper when he deflected the ball over the bar for Brights first point writes Ciara Sharvin.
Play soon opened up with points coming from both teams. BJ McMenamin went on the attack aiming for a goal but again the Dromara keeper denied it in a save which resulted in a 45 that was hit over the bar giving Bright another point. After a great performance in defence from Matthew Burns and a some great saves from keeper Donal McCartan the half time score saw Dromara lead by 2 points with a score of 0-8 to 0-6.
A change in the second half saw Conor Doyle move from full forward to midfield where Bright started to win more ball from which they were able to gain the first score of the half. Despite this, a stronger Dromara fought back scoring a few more points and a goal which left Bright trailing by 8 points. Bright continued to try to close the gap but the game ended with Dromara the victors with a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-15. Scorers: John McLeigh 0-5, Conor Doyle 0-3, Andy McMenamin 0-1 and BJ McMenamin 0-3. Next match Sunday 8th September at home to St Pauls, throw in 12.00 noon.
The U-10’s took part in their last tournament in Ballykinler on Saturday morning, winning all games but one, losing only by one point, this brilliant performance got them into the Semi Final. After an exciting game and fine performances all round the match ended in a draw, this meant extra time was to be played, but yet again this ended in a draw, the referee then took the decision, that the next team to score would be announced the winners. Despite the efforts of Chris Cullen and Lee Murphy who came close on occasion, Bright were unable to get the first score and narrowly missed out on a place in the final. The guys were very unluncky to have lost and should be proud of the performance they put in. it was a fantastic display of football from all involved.
With goals from Paddy Fitzsimons and Ryan Burns. Lee Murphy and Chris Cullen kept composure in midfield and Joe Brown, Cillian Burns and Callum Laird put in great performances in defence along with keeper Aodhan McEvoy who put in some great saves. Also well done to Sean Dugan and Charlie Gelston who both put in Strong performances despite being so young. With young talent like this coming through, the future looks bright for the club.
