Bright senior men knew they had to perform well when they faced St Pauls at home on Friday night and use this match as an opportunity to prepare for next weeks championship match writes Cyril McKinney.
With the wind against them Bright’s first score came from Eamonn McKinney after a few missed chances and although holding a lot of possession the strong winds denied them getting scores on the board but Cormac McLaughlin, Donal McCartan and Conor Burke added to the score sheet and the first half finished level at 0-4 to 0-4.
On the restart St Paul’s were immediately on the attack and popped over 2 points consecutively before Corey Ranaghan and Cormac McLaughlin efforts put them teams level again. A fantastic effort from the side line about 35 yards out from Joseph Farrand put the boys back in lead where they remained for the rest of the match. Great defensive work ensured that St Paul’s didnt score in the last 15 mins and further scores from Declan Trainor, Corey Ranaghan, James Hanna, Cormac McLaughlin, Gareth George and Rian Tempany saw Bright win 1-13 to 0-9.
