The club’s Under-14 team were edged out by near neighbours Kilclief in the championship final in Ballyrkinler writes Cyril McKinney.
On the day it just did not happen for our brave boys but what a season this young team have had and they themselves, the managers and their families should be proud of what they have achieved so far. Without doubt they will bounce back such was, understandably, the passion showed afterwards in defeat but for now we can congratulate Kilclief on their success while we will regroup and prepare for next season.
One thing for sure the future in Bright looks very Bright with talent like we have within our juvenile squads! What was refreshing was the level of support for our team and the positive comments from neutral onlookers about the talent within our team on the day.
The Under-16’s completed their 2016 campaign by taking part in a 9-a-side tournament hosted by Darragh Cross on Sunday morning. With two groups of four and all other teams taking part ranked in higher leagues, Bright where major underdogs but started brightly with convincing victories over Castlewellan and Clonduff before being edged out by the hosts Darragh Cross.
However the team had done enough to progress to the quarter finals but in a competitive game Castlewellan gained their revenge. The Bright team can come away proud that they performed well and can easily compete with teams in the higher leagues. Impressive performances from every player who really gave it their all to prove a point. Squad: Ben McLaughlin, Ronan Tempany, Decky Burns, Decky Looney, Sam Dinu, Kian Tierney, Ruairi Tumelty, Dan McMenammin, Tiernan Smyth, Sean Og Burns, Lee Murphy, Eoin Dignam.
Many thanks to Darragh Cross for the invite and hosting a well organised tournament.
There is much to build on within our youth setups and the work of managers Marty Murphy, David Laird, Corey Ranaghan, Paddy Mageean, Conor Burke along with the two Martys – Ranaghan and Tumelty has to recognised and acknowledged. Without these guys giving freely of their time, skills and knowledge our club would struggle to exist. We need more coaches and mentors to get involved – the talent is there so anyone out there with time to spare please get in touch.

The club AGM is being arranged for Friday 18th November at Bright Community Centre.
Our Club secretary Phyllis Laird Sharvin has announced her intention to step down at the AGM. This is an important role within our club and one that will need filled by someone with commitment and dedication. Our club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Phyllis for her tireless work over many years – being club secretary is now a semi fulltime job and is time consuming and a lot of unseen work is needed behind the scenes to keep the club going forward.
The club does need fresh input from anyone with a genuine interest in promoting GAA games in our community. Lets get behind our club and support the undoubted talent we have in our juveniles rather than sit back and leave it to someone else! It is everyone’s responsibility.
