Cardiff Devils 1 4 Stena Line Belfast Giants (After Overtime)
Cardiff certainly had a devil of a time when they faced the Stena Line Belfast Giants who made it two away wins in as many days over the Cardiff Devils with Sunday’s 4-1 victory.
Giants goals came from Ben Lake, Patryk Wronka, Brian Ward and Liam Reddox.tFollowing Saturday’s frantic clash in Cardiff – the Giants dominated on Sunday to leapfrog the Devils in the Elite League standings.
Belfast now lie in third place with 22 points from 17 games, one point behind the Glasgow Clan in first place with 23 points from 18 games.
Shane Owen started in the Belfast net, posting an impressive 41 saves, with the Giants missing Andrew Dickson and Curtis Hamilton.
Opening blows were exchanged by both sides Just as in Saturday’s encounter – the Giants opened the scoring in Cardiff on the powerplay.
Pat Mullen fed the puck to Jordan Smotherman whose shot rebounded off Ben Bowns and into the path of Ben Lake who cooly slotted home at 7:09.
The Devils hit back with a powerplay goal of their own at 14:43 when Joey Martin’s pass across the face of the Giants goal was hammered home by Mike McNamee.
It was the visitors who would strike the next blow as the Giants started to take control. Curtis Leonard shipped the puck to Patryk Wronka on the blueline with the forward turning and firing past Bowns in the Cardiff goal at 30:01.
Brian Ward extended the Giants lead right at the end of the middle period. David Goodwin skated the puck behind the goal and provided a classy assist for Ward to slot low between Bowns pads at 39:4
The Giants rounded off the scoring to take a three goal lead early in the final period when Bobby Farnham found Liam Reddox all alone in the Cardiff zone and he finished well when one-on-one with Bowns at 43:58.

Next up for the Giants are three away games in five days which will be an action-packed week.
First up is the Sheffield Steelers on Wednesday, face-off 7:30pm and live on FreeSports TV, before Saturday and Sunday in Scotland against the Fife Flyers and Dundee Stars respectively.
The Giants next home games are against the Sheffield Steelers on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th December – when the organisation will be celebrating their 20th anniversary.
