Player-coach David Harris and his sidekick Ian Dornan were delighted with a big win for the 2nd XV over CIYMS in the Conference League following a ringrusty defeat to Grosvenor the week before writes James Kirk.
They scored eight tries, with the McMullan brothers notching a brace each. Zac Fisher, Matt McKelvey, and Kieron McCauley also crossed the line while the evergreen Harris orchestrated proceedings from outhalf and weighed in with a try and six conversions.
The 3rd Xv shipped a heavy home defeat to a strong Harlequins 2s side as they began their league campaign. Quins had no first XV fixture and may not be as strong for the return game later on in the season.
The U16s began life under new coach Roben Anderson by cruising to a win at the Malone blitz. They will be competitive again this season despite the breakup of last years successful side. All youth players welcome on Wednesday nights at 7.30 for training. No experience necessary.
An All-Star Hinch veteran side turned out to play the Perennials in an entertaining Sunday afternoon fixture in memeory of Noel, Graham and Nevin Spence. The hair was a lot thinner and the legs a little slower but once the competitive juices began to flow an actual game of rugby broke out. Ex Hinch men Joel Callaghan and Colin Atkinson took the field for the Perennials while the Hinch outfit included legends like Clem Bassett, Ian Dornan and Raymie McCavery as well as more modern heroes like Johnny Cullen, John Gunson and Willy Faloon. Aaron Ferris looked better playing for the first XV on Saturday than he did against his 50 year old marker on Sunday! Well done to Tim Morton for organising such a great event.
Mini rugby continues on Saturday mornings from 9.30-11am. Boys and girls from P1 – Yr8 are all welcome, with training run for each age group in their school year.
