Its mission is to save lives and support people and it does this through a range of cancer detection, prevention and support services. Action Cancer is the only charity in Northern Ireland offering breast screening.
It uses state-of –the-art digital mammography equipment. The charity screens over 1000 women in Northern Ireland each month at its Belfast base and on board the £1.2m Big Bus which travels to over 200 locations every year.
Every month on average the charity detects six breast cancers among women aged 40-49 and over 70 years old, who fall outside the NHS Screening programme. Each year Action Cancer requires an income of £3.5 million to run the vital services provided as Action Cancer receive no government funding.
