Awards For All Supports Down Community Groups

Community groups in the South Down area are celebrating after being awarded National Lottery funding.

Ladies of Mourne are amongst the 85 groups across Northern Ireland who are sharing £746,713 from Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme (full list of awards in separate attachment).

Ladies of Mourne in Kilkeel supports women of all ages in the local community. They have been awarded a £9,623 grant to provide a number of educational and recreational activities and trips during the year.

Ballyvea Football Club in Kilkeel runs community, recreational and health activities. They are using the £9,855 grant to make improvements including installing new fencing to make their venue more suitable for community activities and events. They are also providing community day trips, an open day and youth workshops.

Schomberg Thistle Club, which is also based in Kilkeel, provides a range of social and educational activities for older people. They are using the £2,350 for an activity programme and to create a cookery book.

Ballyholland Sunshine Club received support for older people involved in culture, health and wellbeing.

Newry and Mourne MS NI received funds to support their programme of yaga and arts for sufferers and their families.

Derryboye Primary School will be enjoying next term its funding for new iPads and laptops for pupils and parents to extend their education after class time.

Killyleagh Skiff Rowing Club received £10,000 towards building a new boat to accommodate younger and elderly members.

Also receiving funding is Ballee Non Subscribing Presbyterian Church, which is based in a rural area outside Downpatrick and supports the local community. They have been awarded £9,980 to make improvements to the hall they use and buy new tables and chairs so it can be used for more community activities and events.

Kirkistown True Blues LOL 1412 received funding to help convert their Orange Lodge to a community friendly facility.

Millisle Regeneration received support to develop a village plan and an community hub.

And the uHub Therapy Centre CIC in Bangor is developing its counselling and therapy workshop for young people with support from Awards for All.
