Alliance Strangford Assembly candidate Kellie Armstrong has welcomed the Integrated Education Fund’s latest campaign, starring Hollywood star Liam Neeson.
The Fund released a video promoting their website featuring the Ballymena actor.
The site provides parents with the opportunity to indicate if they would like the school their child is attending to transform to an integrated school.
Kellie Armstrong said: “I offer my congratulations and support to the Integrated Education Fund for this campaign. I hope it will highlight the demand for more integrated schools and encourage parents to register their interest.
“This campaign launch follows from revelations the Minister of Education Peter Weir underspent on integrated education last year by £47 million, money promised in the so-called Fresh Start Agreement. This is as well as delaying the release of the Independent Review on Integrated Education.
“Prior to the collapse of the Assembly, I had been working on a Private Members’ Bill to expand and reform the current legislation framework, which provides for the provision of integrated education. The Bill would ensure the Department would fulfil its obligation and make integrated education the norm, not the exception.
“This campaign is another step toward de-segregating our schools, something which a majority of people in Northern Ireland want. I would encourage parents to use integratemyschool.com to register support for their child’s school to be transformed.”
