Ardglass GAC held their annual Senior Awards night in Finbar’s, Coney Island on Saturday night. Picking up awards on the night were:
Davy Armstrong – Reserves Most Improved Player of the Year; Caolon Conlon – Reserves Managers Player of the Year; Seniors Players Player of the Year – Stephen Rooney; Seniors Mangers Player of the Year – Eamon McEvoy; Seniors Sportsman of the Year – Daniel Fleming; Seniors Young Player of the Year – Caolain O’Shea writes Michelle Taggart.
The Danny Flynn Shield was presented to Eamon McEvoy for the Seniors Supporters Player of the Year and we were delighted to have Danny’s son Anthony Flynn with us on Saturday night to make the presentation – Danny has four grandsons currently playing for our senior team; Mark, Christopher & David Armstrong and Cavan Flynn.
Well done to both teams especially those who were awarded on Saturday night and a special word of thanks goes to the management teams for all of their hard work and dedication throughout the year. And on that note, the committee are delighted to announce the reappointment of Ryan Kelly and Sean Caughey as the Senior management team for 2016.
Good luck to you both for the forthcoming season from the entire club.
[caption id="attachment_60335" align="aligncenter" width="540"] Stephen Rooney on a break for Ardglass against Teconnaught during the junior semi-final in Pairc Esler.[/caption]On Sunday afternoon we were back in Finbars, Coney Island for our annual Juvenile Awards for the U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-16 teams. Special guests this year for the presentation of awards were our very own senior team players and management who were runners up in the Junior Championship this year!
This U-8’s won both the Ardglass and Ballykinlar shields this season and there to present the awards on Sunday to team players Jack McConkey and Patrick Dunlop were Martina O’Shea (our 2015 U-8’s manager and Ryan Kelly, senior team manager for 2015.)
Conor Addis received the U-14’s Most Improved Player of the Year, Shea Dorrian picked up the U-14’s Sportsman of the Year award along with Dylan Addis who was worthy of the U-14’s Managers Player of the Year Award. There to present their awards on Sunday were Stephen Rooney (one of our 2015 senior team captains) and team coach Micky Curran. Conor Kearney received this year’s U-16’s Players Player of the Year, Ruairi Deegan was awarded the Up & Coming award and there to receive the trophy on behalf of Ruairi was brother Ronan. Corey Mahon picked up two awards on Sunday – the U-16 Managers Player of the Year.
Also the Most Outstanding Player of the Year award. Jamie Clarke received a Special Award for his contribution to the team during 2015. An award of dedication was awarded to David Murphy and finally the U-16’s Most Improved Player of the Year for 2015 was Ciaran Fitzpatrick and presenting the U16 player awards were team manager/coaches Danny and Mary Kearney.
Thank you to all of our juvenile team managers/coaches for their hard work and commitment to the club throughout 2015. Thank you also to the parents for your support throughout the year.
On behalf of everyone at Ardglass GAC, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael and Emer of Finbars, Coney Island, for allowing us to use their fantastic premises for both awards ceremonies last weekend. Their hospitality is second to none and they have supported us a lot throughout 2015 – thank you both for all you have done, it is much appreciated by everyone at the club.
The Club Down awards night takes place this coming Friday, 4 December in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry. A shortlist of 26 players have been nominated and the final 15 Allstars will be revealed on the night – among the nominees, we have our very own senior player Stephen Rooney – Best of luck Stephen from everyone at the club! Special guests on the night are former Dublin great Brian Mullins, International Rules and former Armagh manager Joe Kernan, two-time All-Ireland winning manager Peter McGrath and the new Down Minor manager James McCartan.
Ardglass GAC will be attending the ‘Marieanne’s – Making Memories Christmas Craft Fair’ this Sunday, 6 December in Ardglass Community Hall from 11am-3pm. There will be a great selection of stalls with lovely items for sale, tombola and great prizes for Raffle, Santa will be arriving at 12, hope to see you all there to support the fundraising for Daisy Lodge.
We need coaches for all teams next season, playing or coaching experience not essential. Several coaching courses over the winter with the next one happening this Thursday in Saul, and each Thursday for the next three weeks. All coaches will be put through Foundation coaching course. Bingo continues every Sunday out at the clubrooms in Ardtole – Doors open at 7pm with the first game starting at 7.30pm – Everyone welcome!
