Alliance can win a seat in the coming Thursday March 2 election. That is the verdict of Alliance candidate Patrick Brown who maintains a very positive outlook for his hopes in South Down.
Speaking to Down News, Rowallene Councillor Patrick Brown said: “I’m certain of it. The response we’ve been getting on the doors is tremendous, and the fact we’ve recruited over 50 activists during this campaign, coupled with the change in people’s mindsets since our last election just ten months ago is a strong mix.
“If Alliance receives a vote for every person who has said ‘well, it’s about time for a change’ then we will elect South Down’s first ever cross-community MLA.
“We need a genuine change in politics in the North… not the SDLP or UUP scenario, who will receive a preference from me. I do feel these two parties do not offer a coherent vision for the future, and instead have been torn between forging a cross-community middle ground or appealing to the hardline base of their larger rivals, DUP and Sinn Fein.
“In 2016, we tripled our vote and proved Alliance is a credible alternative to the green and orange politics that have dominated our politics for too long. This election, our canvassing data shows we are on course to double that, but only if people vote for the change they really want and put Alliance as their number 1 preference on voting day.
“Both SDLP seats in this area are predicted to be safe – they are only running two candidates this time and have 13,000 votes to split between them. A vote for Alliance will count more. With your help we could take either the DUP seat or the second Sinn Fein seat.”
Patrick Brown added: “Let’s send a message up to Stormont that we are fed up with division, waste and incompetence. Let’s vote for a progressive, cross-community alternative that will fight for transparency, accountability and honesty in politics.
“We can win, but we need your help to make it happen. So, on Thursday 2nd don’t vote green or orange. Vote Brown for South Down and help make a change… FOR GOOD.”
