Alexander Burgess to run for UUP in Downpatrick
He may be a chip off the old block, but Alexander Burgess has clear views on where the Ulster Unionist Party should be heading in the coming local government election on Thursday 18th May 2023.
His father has been a stalwart UUP councillor for the Rowallene area for a number of years and Alexander will already understand the commitment that is required to be a local councillor.
Speaking to Down News he said: “I will ensure that the people of Downpatrick get a fair share of expenditure from Newry Mourne and Down District Council.
“I understand the impacts of a lack of investment from both local and central government.
“I am married with a family and I am tuned in to the pressures that everyone is facing right now.
“The way forward is to create jobs, prosperity and inward investment to the Downpatrick area. Economic growth just won’t happen on its own… we need to create the right circumstances for it to emerge and develop.
“Fundamentally, I will work with everyone across the community to achieve these ends. We really need better facilities in Downpatrick and the town needs its infrastructure properly upgraded.
“So with the support of the people of Downpatrick I will strive to address key local issues and work tirelessly for the local community top make it a safer and healthier place to live in.
“We do need to bring fresh thinking to the table in the Council for Downpatrick if it is to improve in the years to come.
“I am calling on all Unionist-minded people to vote for me as their No1 to secure an effective voice for their community.
“We can win a seat in the chamber to further represent the diverse views of Downpatrick but we need your votes.”
