Cllr Patrick Clarke is delighted at progress in securing more litter bins for Dundrum Castle.

He said: “I had received complaints regarding the litter bins at Dundrum Castle within the car park area not being emptied on a regular basis, which seems to be a recurring problem at Dundrum Castle from Easter onwards.”

“I requested that the matter of litter bins being emptied more regularly could be resolved as Newry Mourne and Down District Council is being blamed for not emptying these bins which is not under Council ownership. A number of complaints and photographs were also sent to me off the overflowing bins which does not help when tourists are visiting Dundrum Castle and South Down.

“I have also been advised that the department ranger noted that litter can collect at the Dundrum Castle car park site on Sunday evenings and it is removed accordingly first thing on a Tuesday afternoon.

“Dundrum Castle is in the care of the Historic Environment Division, Department for Communities, not Newry Mourne and Down District Council and I am glad of this small progress.”
