SDLP Education Spokesperson and former School Principle Sean Rogers MLA has called on the Minister for Education to ensure local English GCSE students are treated fairly and equally to their counterparts in Wales who have had their work remarked by Examination Boards.
Speaking at the Stormont Education Committee (Wednesday 26 September), xa0the South Down MLA said: “Alongside Maths, English GCSE is one of the most important subjects affecting the employment future of our young people.
“It is inconceivable that where serious concerns have been raised about the grading process of this critical GCSE, that our local Education Minister would not respond as teachers, teaching Unions and his Welsh Ministerial counterpart have, in calling for an investigation and remark.
“The Education Committee agreed with me that in the interests of justice and equality, the Minster should be pressed to call for an investigation and regrade for those students affected by this fiasco.
“I am hopeful that Minister O’Dowd will respond positively and fairly to this request in recognition and respect for the efforts of those GCSE pupils” added Mr Rogers.
