Ian McCormick, Head of School for Computing and Media at SERC said, “This was an excellent opportunity for our students to gain experience of covering live sporting events. The students were able to pick from a range of different specialisms such as reporting, filming, editing and photography, all of which are elements of their course. It is great to work with organisations such as the IFA and UEFA; this will be a valuable addition to our students CV’s when they are seeking employment in the future.” The IFA approached SERC about this project after learning of a recent partnership between SERC and Irish League club Lisburn Distillery, which will see media students provide online coverage of all home games this season. To date, students have set-up a YouTube channel for Distillery where fans can access match reports, video footage of games and interviews with players and management. “We are really excited about our partnership with Lisburn Distillery. The students aim to establish Lisburn Distillery’s YouTube channel as a key communication medium for fans across Northern Ireland and indeed the world. We hope to secure further opportunities for students extending beyond football were they can gain practical work experience, widening their industry knowledge, added Ian McCormick.
