Mainstay DRP’s Mourne 100KM Cycle Challenge

THE majestic Mourne Mountains are not only well known the world over as a must-see tourist destination, but they’ve also served as a training ground for cyclists across Ireland. And such was the success of Co Down charity Mainstay DRP’s cycling event there last year, they have decided to host another on Sunday, 18th September at 9am. The charity which provides care and support services for people with a learning disability, their families and carers in the Co Down area in the form of residential care, respite services, vocational training and day care, is in top gear trying to fundraise for a new residential/day care centre in Downpatrick. Over 170 people enjoyed last year’s fundraising event and the charity would like to attract even more cyclists this time. Many accomplished amateur cyclists have progressed from the local sports scene through to professionalism in Europe after using the Mournes mountain range as their practice path. However, the experience and not so experienced are all welcome to take part in this fundraiser. To register, the fee is £25 which includes mid-way food stop, mobile water supplies, mechanical back up, motor cycle marshals, ambulance/medical cover, sweeper vans and lead cars. Money raised will help Mainstay DRP reach their £3m target for the ambitious ‘Building The Dream’ project – a major new purpose built development for people with a learning disability planned for the Killough Road, Downpatrick. With some of the most beautiful scenery in Ireland waiting for you, it really would be a shame to miss it! If you would like to take part, email info@mainstaydrp.org or call (028) 4461 7184.
