Clarke Looks At Fire Risk To Newcastle Homes

Clarke says fire break needed near Newcastle housing

Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has entered into correspondence with APEX housing and Rivers Agency, to try and create a fire break between housing and the flood plain to the rear of homes in Burren Meadow, Newcastle.

Cllr Clarke said: “There is great concern from residents who have gorse bushes growing close to their oil tanks.

“This is causing much anxiety with residents. They fear the whins could be set alight and endanger their homes and lives.

“Therefore, it may be the responsibility of APEX housing to ensure the fire break is created to ensure the well-being of their tenants.

“I will be writing to APEX and Rivers Agency to get agreement to carry out the necessary assessment and the safety works as soon as possible, especially before the drier summer season comes in.”

Sinn Féin Mournes Councillor is concerned at the lack of a fire break beside housing in Newcastle and will be speaking to Apex Housing and the Rivers Agency to get this made safe as it could be a fire hazzard he says.
