Jim Shannon, MP for Strangford, has called on the PSNI to address the issue of anti-social behaviour at the playground adjacent to Victoria Primary School on Ballyhalbert.

Mr Shannon said: “There has been a spate of vandalism at the play park, damage to the safety surfaces, bottles smashed and strewn across the surfaces and graffiti over the playground equipment. It would seem to be the opinion of residents that those involved in the rising levels of anti-social behaviour are from outside the village and local neighbours have expressed concern over the noise and disturbance and under-age drinking at this location.
“At a meeting with a PSNI Inspector today, xa0I asked for a Police Officer on this area to cover over the summer.
“A further issue which was also highlighted at the meeting issue was regarding parking at the school which continues to be a problem and a meeting with the Education Authority at Grahamsbridge Road will take place this week.
“The turning circle and parking within the school could be used better but internal safety steps will need to be taken before that could happen. A better understanding between teachers, parents, children and local residents has to be agreed so that everyone can have a better quality of life and this is something which I will be working on.”
