‘Securing Ireland’s Farming Future’
The SDLP’s third annual agriculture conference takes place on Thursday 10 April in Kelly’s Inn Omagh, with a number of key figures from the sector scheduled to participate.
Topics on the agenda for discussion include current farming issues, agri-sector processing and marketing, and the ‘European dimension for Irish agriculture’.
SDLP Agriculture spokesperson, and vice chair of the Assembly’s Agriculture Committee, Joe Byrne said: “This conference is an excellent opportunity for farmers to get together and discuss the many issues affecting their livelihoods. It will give farmers a fantastic chance to network and, more importantly, talk to other farmers about the pressures they face daily, and about the opportunities in the agri-food sector.
“I am delighted that the Irish Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney has agreed to attend our conference and be the guest speaker once again, particularly since Minister Coveney successfully agreed the new CAP reform as President of the EU Counsel of Agricultural Ministers last year. It will also be great to see Professor Wall speak at the conference, given that he is a former Christian Brothers School pupil.”
The one-day conference at Kelly’s Inn, Omagh begins at 9.45-10.15am and features a number of speakers.
The key-note speaker Minister Simon Coveney will address the conference at 2.30pm, and a question and answer session will follow.
