Revealed: Top greyhound could earn more than €4800 (£4,000) per second with victory this weekend in BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Final
A greyhound is in line to earn €5185 (£4319) per second this Saturday in Ireland in the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Final, according to research by the independent bookmaker.
The Irish Greyhound Derby Final is a race held over 550 yards at Shelbourne Park in Ireland and awards €125,000 (£105,000) to the winner. The Final is the culmination of six weeks of intense competition which has seen the field whittled down to the best six dogs in Britain and Ireland.
Current favourite for the race with BoyleSports, Bockos Diamond trained by Graham Holland in County Tipperary, smashed the Shelbourne Park track record in their semi final heat, recording a time of 28.94 seconds for the 550 yard distance. Should they equal that time, that can equate to the prize of £4319 per second of work this weekend.
The staggering rates of pay means the winner of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Final earns more per second than some of the biggest stars in the world, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Elon Musk but they, of course, earn more over a year.
Ronaldo only earns £3.42 per second playing football in Saudi Arabia, while X supremo and newly-appointed US government adviser Musk rakes £362 per second.
Bockos Diamond is a very heavy 3/10 favourite to win the race this weekend in Dublin, while BoyleSports Bob, a horse owned by the bookmaker’s chairman John Boyle, is a 14/1 shot to win the race which will see six dogs battle it out to be named champion with the action getting underway at 9pm on Saturday night.
