Newry City is celebrating retaining the international Purple Flag Status along with 58 other locations throughout Ireland and Britain in recognizing excellence in the evening and night time economy.
Purple Flag is an accreditation process for town and cities that meet or surpass the standards of excellence in the evening and night-time economy. The project was led by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) supported by a steering group which was represented by Newry City Centre Management, Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade, Police Service Northern Ireland, Night Time Economy providers, business community and interested parties.

NEWRY CITY HALLOWEEN CELEBRATIONS Spook-tacular free fun for all the family! Open air concert, fancy dress competition, Ghosts, Ghouls and Witches on street performers, Pumpkin Carving, Halloween Photo Booth, Face Painting and Electrifying Fireworks Extravaganza.

It makes an important statement about the offering available in our City and demonstrates the partnership ethos to ensure that people visiting our City Centre day / night have a great time, as well as a safe and welcoming experience.
“Purple Flag is a marketing brand to drive economic growth, create investment and improve standards. This was clearly evident at the recently attended Newry Greater Area Business Awards, were local businesses achieved recognition for exceptionally high stands and ambition which is synonymous with this region.”
Newry, Mourne and Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership is working to help make communities safer and to ensure the voices of local people are heard on policing and community safety issues , the PCSP aims to empower communities to work in partnership to develop solutions that will help tackle crime, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.
The PCSP is made up of 10 Councillors and 9 Independent members as well as representatives from the PSNI, NIFRS, Housing Executive, Youth Justice Agency , PBNI, SELB and Southern Health and Social Care Trust. The current Chair is Cllr Mickey Larkin.
The Purple Flag scheme is managed by the Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) working alongside the Purple Flag Advisory committee, a partnership of key stakeholders backed by government, police and businesses. The current Chief Executive is Shanazz Carrol.
