Slieve Croob Councillor Róisín Howell has welcomed news that DfI are to carry out investigations as to why one of the main roads into Castlewellan has recently started to flood again.
After the recent spell of wet weather Councillor Howell said she had been contacted by several local residents as well as commuters who use the A50 route in to Castlewellan to access their business or use the route to travel on to work elsewhere.
Cllr Howell said: “Several years ago, maintenance work was carried out and measures were in put in place to alleviate the major flooding issue which had previously seen this route being closed off completely.
“However in this past two months this same stretch of road has seen a return to scenes from the past with the parts of the road being completely under water and cars having to use an alternative route.”
“After listening to local residents and commuters alike I contacted DfI to express my constituents’ concerns, DfI have subsequently assured me that they are embarking on a range of investigations to get to the source of the problem and will in due course carry out any remedial work required.”
