Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke Seels Cycle Track on A50 From Castlewellan To Newcastle

Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed a written response from Transport NI regarding a designated cycleway on the A50 between Newcastle and Castlewellan.

dn_screenCouncillor Clarke said: “I recently made written representations regarding the provision of a dedicated cycleway between Newcastle and Castlewellan along the main road route between both towns. A number of cyclists have expressed concern for their safety when cycling between Newcastle and Castlewellan and raised the matter with me of a dedicated cycleway to assist cyclists. “Following my written representations Transport NI has recently reviewed the feasibility of such a proposal along the A50 between Newcastle and Castlewellan taking into account many factors including potential scheme costs, existing road geometry and history & relevance of injury collisions.

“It has been determined that the scale of the works required, construction of 5.6km (3 and 1/2 miles) of cycleway, merits further consideration and I welcome that my request has been added to a pool of similar requests competing for inclusion in a future programme of works.”
