Slieve Croob Cllr John Rice has been inundated with calls from the public in rural communities after last week’s torrential rain.
Commenting on the issue, Cllr Rice said: “Over these past few days, it has become apparent that the bad weather has created havoc for commuters living and using the roads network in rural communities. Rain water has been coming off the hills at such a volume that the drainage system just cannot cope.
“The edging on many roads has been washed away completely leaving the narrow roads covered with boulders, gravel and stone. Gullies just can’t cope and many are completely blocked compounding an already bad situation. I would urge all motorists to drive with caution on these roads
particularly at night time.
“I have been in contact with DFI officials and will be holding a meeting on Monday to highlight the present situation and I will be accompanying them around many of the worst affected sites. I will also be requesting that they provide a number of homes with sand bags and carry out gully clearing
outside homes that have suffered from the recent floods.”
