Cllr Laura Devlin said: “During one of my many local canvasses, I picked up a number of issues relating to traffic progression and speed along the Tullybrannigan Road in Newcastle. In particular, the stretch that runs from the Kinghill roundabout via Priests Bridge to the junction with the Bryansford Road.

“Residents were very clear that they did not want speed bumps but many were in favour of a reduction in the speed limit which is currently 60mph.

“I have made representations to the Roads Service asking for an assessment of this route.xa0I have alsoxa0requested some white lines to separate the lanes at two of the sharp corners, as well as a sign at the junction with the Bryansford Road to alert lorries etc. to the narrowness of the road.xa0 For anyone who has travelled this route, you will be all too aware of the hindrance of having to reverse back to accommodate a large vehicle.

“Due to the speed bumps in the lower part of Tullybrannigan, traffic from Kinghill quite often utilises this route as opposed to navigating over the speed bumps so the volume of traffic has certainly increased.

“I look forward to the reply from Roads Service and hope that some improvements can be made,” added Laura Devlin.
