ARDS Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has joined the hard-hitting national ‘One Punch Can Kill’ campaign, warning young men of the possible adverse consequences of getting involved in a fight during a night out.

The campaign, aimed at 16-25 year old males, has been produced by The Youth Justice Agency and The Northern Ireland Policing Board, as a response to the significant number of deaths that have occurred in Northern Ireland as a result of fights outside pubs and clubs.
Commenting on the campaign, Ards PCSP chair Alderman Ronnie Ferguson said: “I don’t think anyone ever leaves home on a Friday or Saturday night with the intention of killing someone, but if you get into a fight after a few drinks and throw a punch it could end up seriously wounding or killing someone else.
“You can help by making sure that if you’re out having a few drinks you look after yourself and look after your friends; there’s no shame in walking away from trouble and persuading your mates to do so as well, because throwing that punch is just not worth the risks.”
The campaign includes a YouTube video, posters, adshels, billboards, and bus advertising, as well as a face-to-face educational programme for young men, demonstrating how, ‘A moment’s madness will ruin more than one life’.
Trialled in Army camps and with young people, the face-to-face programme has been shown to be highly effective in changing attitudes, and can be delivered to schools, colleges and community groups across the Borough by trained members of Ards PCSP, on request. Resource packs are also available for schools or community groups who would like to deliver the programme in-house.
