“The focus of the competition is not on the quality of people’s Irish, it’s on the effort people make to use whatever Irish they have on the day. Castlewellan has been chosen to compete alongside only 12 other towns from over 60 towns which entered for the competition. And a prize of €40,000 is up for grabs for the winning town to spend on developing their locality. “G-Day won’t be an average day in Castelwellan as Glór Uachtar Tíre is planning a host of festivities to give the local population and visitors the opportunity to have a shot at speaking Irish and to enjoy the day. The aim is that Irish will be spoken in shops, restaurants, offices, homes and on the streets – all with your help! “G-Day will take place on the 15th of June and the programme will be televised on TG4 in the Autumn. Come along and enjoy the fun of G-day!” Emer added that if you have any exciting ideas about projects for the day’s festivities and would like to be involved in G-Day, please get in touch with Glór Uachtar Tíre on 028 437 70331 or 07501252027 or gloruachtartire@hotmail.co.uk. Why not join up for a short Irish language course? ]]>
