The aim of the Project is to support existing traders, promote the town and improve the attractiveness of the shop frontages.

Minister Storey said: “The Ballynahinch Revitalisation Scheme is one of the priority actions identified in the town centre Masterplan. As well as complementing the ongoing Public Realm Improvement Scheme it will focus on the upgrading of shop frontages, enhanced Christmas lighting and the promotion and marketing of the town centre.

”These improvements will provide the tools to promote Ballynahinch as a must visit market town by making it more appealing and by helping existing businesses to improve their capacity to trade, contributing to the long term viability and prosperity of the town.”

Work will commence shortly and is due to be completed by Spring 2015. It will be managed by Down District Council and will be delivered by traders and local elected representatives.

Councillor William Walker, Chairman of Down District Council said:” I would like to welcome this investment to Ballynahinch. I am confident the programme will promote economic activity in the core commercial part of the town, increasing footfall to the area and stimulating investment. I look forward to the project initiatives being announced in due course.”

The total cost of the project is £230,000 with the Department for Social Development contributing £200,000 and a Down District Council providing £30,000.xa0The Ballynahinch town Masterplan is due to be published shortly.
