Leading the canvass local MP Margaret Ritchie said: “It was an excellent opportunity to meet with local people and find out the issues impacting them in their area.

“Residents were detailing a number of priority issues that need pursued such as the need for adequate play facilities in the area, dog fouling, road repairs and the need for additional street lighting and footpaths in the locality.

“I will be pursing these issues with the appropriate authorities and my councillor colleagues to ensure action takes place for local people.

Joining the MP was Down District Downpatrick area councillor Colin McGrath who added: “I was delighted that a youthful, fresh SDLP team was out going door to door listening to local people and representing them in their issues.

“Whilst other parties are busy fighting and falling out with each other we are on the ground providing service to local people.

“For us that is what politics is about – local service.”
