Ritchie Condemns Attack On Warrenpoint Police Station

South Down MP Margaret Ritchie MP has condemned the attack on a Warrenpoint police station in the early hours of Sunday morning.

dn_screenOfficers returning from patrol around 3.30am noticed a petrol bomb had been thrown at the perimeter wall but had failed to ignite. Ms Ritchie described the attack as “cowardly” and an attempt to return South Down to the past: She said: “This attack represents a very clear attempt by an extreme minority to return South Down to the past. The people of Warrenpoint and South Down have made it unequivocally clear that they reject violence and condemn any attack on our policing service.

“The local community support PSNI officers who work very hard to ensure their safety in often difficult circumstances. It is fortunate that this cowardly attack did not result in any injury or significant damage. “While the PSNI are working hard to locate the perpetrators, we would urge anyone with any information relating to the incident or who noticed anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact PSNI officers in Warrenpoint on 101
