RGU Notes For 19 March 2017

The Community that is RGU were devastated with the news of the passing of Pat Oakes at the end of the week. An icon of the club he was a man much revered throughout the GAA world. The Oakes family are steeped in the history of Gaelic Games in the town and none more so than Pat. He had a long distinguished playing career with The Hoops before going on to manage the senior team in 1978 to a memorable Down SFC.

Latterly Pat was also President of RGU and was very proud of his sons and more recently his grandchildren representing the Green and White.  There are insufficient words to describe his contribution to RGU and he will be sadly missed by us all.

But more significantly Pat will be sorely missed by his family. To Mary, his widow, and to Gareth , Tracey, Julie, Pamela, Phillip and Karl as well as the very extended Oakes family we offer our heartfelt condolences.

He was a true Gael, a friend, a man always up for the craic we will definitely miss his presence around the town and at Pairic Tomas Ruiseil.

Ar dhéis Dé go rabh a anam úasal.

RGU’s Morgan Shannon, Adair Trainor, Kyla Trainor, Orla Boyle and Kiera Turley who were on the Down Squad who defeated Limerick on Saturday on a score line of 2.9 to 2.6.
