Coming up to Christmas, many people will be looking for a bargain, but it is important not to be fobbed off with inferior goods leading to disappointment.

District Commander, Superintendent Brian Kee QPM said: “Counterfeiting is a lucrative business for criminals who are only interested in lining their pockets. In the run-up to Christmas we would advise people to be on their guard when purchasing goods.

“These counterfeit goods may make quick profits for the criminals but they end up causing damage to legitimate businesses and potential harm to customers who think they’re getting a bargain.

“It is also worth remembering that many counterfeit goods are of poor quality and do not perform or last as long as is expected.xa0

“As with any criminal offence, we will go where the evidence takes us and always seek to place individuals before the Courts.

“Information from the public is key to this, so I’d ask anyone who has any information about the supply of counterfeit goods to get in touch by calling 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous always.”
